WHICH LICENCE DO YOU NEED?

Two licences.
More freedom on the water.

In Queensland, you need a Recreational Marine Driver Licence (RMDL) to operate a boat, and a Personal Watercraft Licence (PWCL) to operate a Jet Ski (personal watercraft).

Both licences are issued by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), and require you to complete approved BoatSafe training and assessment.

The Queensland Boat Licence (RMDL) allows you to legally operate recreational marine vessels in Queensland, such as runabouts, centre consoles, cabin boats and other vessels with a motor.

The Queensland Jet Ski Licence (PWCL) allows you to legally operate a personal watercraft (PWC), such as a Jet Ski, in Queensland waters. A PWCL is separate from the standard boat licence and there are specific requirements to obtain it.
