Weight limits & requirements
For safety, vessel capacity and equipment limitations, specific weight and personal flotation device (PFD) requirements apply to candidates undertaking Queensland Boat Licence and Personal Watercraft Licence (PWCL) practical training and assessment.
-
Personal Watercraft Licence (PWCL / Jet Ski): Maximum candidate body weight of 120 kg.
-
Recreational Marine Driver Licence (RMDL / Boat Licence): Maximum candidate body weight of 140 kg.
-
All candidates must be able to safely and securely wear a 50S XL PFD provided for the practical session. Where a candidate exceeds the applicable weight limit or is unable to comfortably and safely fit the required 50S XL PFD, they must contact the training provider prior to booking or at least 72 hours before the scheduled practical session to discuss whether an alternative arrangement can be accommodated.
An exemption may be considered by prior arrangement and agreement with the training provider, where appropriate.
This may include a candidate supplying their own suitable 50S-rated PFD in a larger size, subject to the training provider confirming that the PFD is appropriate and acceptable for the practical training and assessment.
Candidates who attend a practical session without prior approval and are subsequently unable to meet the applicable weight or PFD requirements may be unable to participate in the practical training or assessment.
No refund or transfer will be provided for cancellations or failed attendance within 72 hours of the scheduled practical session where the candidate exceeds the applicable weight limit or cannot safely fit the required PFD, unless an alternative arrangement has been approved in advance or otherwise
